Football skills camp offered at Portsmouth High School

Next Level logo.jpgThe Next Level Sports Training in Hampton will be offering a football skills camp at Portsmouth High School on June 28-30. The camp, which is open to those in grades 6-12, will run from 5-8 p.m. each night.

The camp will provide detailed skills training for all positions (offense and defense). There will also be a tackling clinic and a recruiting seminar to help athletes learn more about the recruiting process.

College coaches from throughout northern New England will be in attendance. The University of New Hampshire, the University of Maine, St. Anselm College and Nichols College are among the schools that have already committed.

The cost is $125 per athlete. Those who register will receive a t-shirt and a free week of traning at The Next Level Sports Training.

Relentless Training Camp offered in Bedford

5732229.jpgThe 2013 Relentless Training Football Camp will be held July 15-18 at the Bedford High School Stadium. The camp is run by Bedford High School coach Kurt Hines and is open to players in grades 7-12 throughout the state. Space is limited to the first 100 players who register.

The cost is $175, and includes a t-shirt and four half days of position-specific instruction. Kicking instruction will also be offered.

The Northeast 7-on-7 tournament's North Regional will be held at Exeter High School on July 20. This year's event will feature four regional sites and the field at each site has been increased from 32 to 40 teams.

Under Armour is sponsoring this year's tournament and will provide each player with shorts and shirts, and each coaching staff with polo shirts.

At least two teams from this event will advance to the New England 7-on-7 championship tournament, which will be played at Gillette Stadium

The following teams have registered for the Northeast 7-on-7 tournament's North Regional at Exeter High School: 

New Hampshire: Concord, Windham, Kennett, Exeter, Milford and St. Thomas.
Massachusetts: Swampscott, Lynn English, Pingree, Winchester, North Middlesex, St. John's Prep, Nantucket, Georgetown, Haverhill and Chelmsford.
Maine: Leavitt and Falmouth.

This year's tournament will be held July 20 and will feature 40 teams. The cost is $385 per team, and includes Under Armour gear for players and coaches.

St. Anselm Shootout scheduled for June 30

St. Anselm logo.gifThe fourth annual Saint Anselm College Shootout, a 7-on-7 tournament for high school teams, will be held June 30 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester.

The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until a champion is crowned.

The cost is $230 per team, and checks should be made payable to Saint Anselm College Football.

UNH springs into action Saturday

DURHAM - The University of New Hampshire football program will hold a food drive to benefit Saint Thomas More Parish food pantry at the Blue-White Game that closes out spring football camp Saturday, Fans are encouraged to donate a canned food item at Cowell Stadium prior to the 12:30 p.m. scrimmage. Admission to the game is free.
 
Saturday's festivities include the presentation of the Todd Walker Teammate Award at the Walk of Memory in front of the UNH Field House at 10:30 a.m., presented to the player who demonstrates his selflessness and dedication as the ideal teammate.
 
UNH head football coach Sean McDonnell announced Thursday that seniors Seamus O'Neill (Manchester), Chris Setian (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Manny Asam (Bloomfield, N.J.) were elected captains for the 2013 season in a team vote. 

The scrimmage will feature the offense (white) against the defense (blue) in a Team Wild versus Team Cats format. A complete position-by-position preview:

Crossan, Kelly shine in Blue-White Game

DURHAM -- Dalton Crossan rushed for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Merrimack's Mike Kelly (pictured) registered 69 yards receiving and a TD to lead Team Cats to Saturday's 20-0 victory over Team Wild in the University of New Hampshire football team's spring Blue-White Game at Cowell Stadium. 
Crossan, who carried 15 times, scored on an 11-yard scamper on the third play of the second quarter for the game's first touchdown. An extra point from Christian Breda made it 7-0. Early in the fourth quarter, Crossan's second 11-yard TD rush of the game made it 13-0. The PAT from Nashua's Anthony Guidice was wide right. 
Kelly made two catches, including a game-long 45-yard reception from Hayden Jardine (4 of 7, 57 yards) and a 24-yard TD grab from Chris McCormick (1 of 4, 24 yards). Kelly's scoring catch and the PAT from Joe Ghiloni late in the fourth quarter closed out the shutout win for Team Cats.

UNH football clinics coming to a school near you

UNH logo.jpgThe University of New Hampshire football program will run clinics at four New Hampshire high schools during the first two weeks in June. Each clinic will begin at 5 p.m.

Players must pay $15 to participate, and should wear workout clothes and cleats (no helmets or pads). There will be a one-hour offensive session and a one-hour defensive session, followed by a 7-on-7 passing game for the skill players and one-on-one session for the offensive and defensive linemen.

Massachusetts: Swampscott, Lynn English, Pingree, Murdock, Winchester, North Middlesex, Tewksbury, St. John's Prep, Nantucket, Georgetown, Methuen, Haverhill, Chelmsford and Winthrop. 

Maine: York, Leavitt, Massacbesic, Marshwood, Falmouth.

There are 13 spots remaining in the 40-team field, but at least that many New Hampshire coaches from teams that have not registered have expressed an interest in participating, so those who plan to attend should contact tournament director Steve Dembowski: (617) 417-1560.

JULY 14-18: UNH Football Camp

The UNH coaching staff, select area high school coaches and other New England college coaches will provide skills instruction for players in grades 6 through 12.

This is a full-contact camp offering specialized and technical instruction to athletes of every group regardless of skill or position. Time will be spent teaching each athlete both offensive and defensive skills, as well as flexibility and weight training. Each athlete will also receive a free camp t-shirt.

JULY 20: Northeast 7-on-7 Tournament (North Regional) at Exeter High School

Field will feature 40 teams. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games. Finalists will advance to New England Championship at Gillette Stadium.

Pinkerton expected to add lights

Pinkerton Academy football fans will have their Saturday's free this fall.

Lights are scheduled to be installed at Pinkerton Academy's football field and track in time for the Astros to play their 2013 home games on Friday nights. Last season Pinkerton was the only Division I football program without lights.

"I've been told that we are good to go," Pinkerton coach Brian O'Reilly said. "They have announced it to the public. The lights will go up in May and June."

Pinkerton's first home night game will be Sept. 13 against Manchester Central. The Astros will also play Londonderry, Concord and Goffstown at home this season.
